Under 14 Match Report
On May bank holiday Monday, Adare travelled to Newcastle West for the final and decisive match of the Division 1 league. With 1 match left Adare were 1 point behind Newcastle West and it all came down to the last match. The match began in a very competitive fashion with both sides fiercely contesting midfield. David OMahony was prominent in early exchanges and ably supported by Shane OConnor and Hugh Bourke. Adare played some lovely passing football but were unable to capitalise in front of goal. Newcastle on the other hand looked dangerous and Chris Carey in goals was soon called into action. Inevitably it was Newcastle who broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a well taken goal. Despite this Adare kept pressing but Newcastle soon increased their lead with 2 relatively easy goals to go into half time 3 nil up.
The 2nd half saw Newcastle begin to dominate midfield despite the best efforts of the Adare lads. 2 more goals gave the scoreline a flattering look for Newcastle even though it must be said they were deserving winners. Well done to Newcastle West. However the game was played in a good spirit by both teams with excellent displays of skill from both sets of players. The Adare lads played their hearts out but were just unlucky to meet a very good Newcastle team. Best for Adare were Eoghan Costelloe & David Connolly in central defence strongly supported by Eoin Ryan & Mark Connolly. In central midfield David OMahony & Hugh Bourke gave sterling performances along with David OConnor and Shane OConnor on the flanks. Up front Stephen Sheehan and Mike Mackey worked hard but couldnt break down a strong Newcastle defence. Chris Carey in goals did his best to keep the Newcastle attack at bay. All in all an excellent season for the Adare under 14s and all to play for still in the Cup.

Under 14 Report
Adare 2 1 Broadford
Last Thursday evening Adare welcomed Broadford to the Manor Pitch for the 2nd last game of the campaign. Adare needed 3 points to keep in touch with leaders Newcastle West however Broadford were determined to finish their campaign on a high and pressed Adare from an early stage. There was very little between the 2 teams in the first 15 minutes and Adare made the first clear cut chance when Mikey Mackey, just back from injury, latched onto a fine through ball from David OMahony but was denied by the Broadford goalie. However Broadford picked up the challenge and in the next 10 minutes were only denied by 3 fine saves from Adare goalkeeper Chris Carey. Despite this Adare were first to score following some great work from Mikey Mackey he squeezed the ball into the Broadford goal after 25 minutes.
The 2nd half began with some sharp exchanges in midfield as Broadford tried to get back on terms. They finally made the breakthrough after 15 minutes when a speculative shot went over the head of goalkeeper Carey. This stunned the Adare team to taker the game to Broadford and get the result needed. David OMahony began to dominate the midfield exchanges and it was a determined solo run by him that resulted in the winning goal with 10 minutes left. Adare closed down the Broadford attack and both sides were exhausted when the final whistle came.
There were several fine performances from the Adare lads against a dogged Broadford team. Captain Eoghan Costelloe had his finest game of the season as he anchored the Adare defence. Mike Mackey ran his legs off in the first half and Stephen Sheehan had another fine game. Stephen Evans made his competitive debut at right back and had a fine game. Eoin Ryan threw himself into tackle after tackle and eventually succumbed to injury in the 2nd half. Chris Carey in goals had an excellent match and Adare can thank him for keeping them in the game especially in the 1st half. Adare have one final crunch match against Newcastle West which will decide the destiny of the league title. Its been a fine campaign by Adare since last August and all credit to the current squad for the fine football they have played all through the season.
Adare from: Chris Carey, Stephen Evans, Eoin Ryan, Eoghan Costelloe, David Connolly, Mark Connolly, David OMahony, David OConnor, Shane OConnor, Mike Mackey, Stephen Sheehan, Stephen Conway, Cathal Reynolds, Josh McAteer, Sean Clarke, Robert Lewis.

Adare Under 14s
Abbeyfeale 0 2 Adare Utd
Last Saturday Adare travelled to Abbeyfeale on a bright sunny morning needing a win to keep in touch with leaders Newcastle West. Abbeyfeale started strongly and put the Adare defence under pressure from the start. After 10 minutes Abbeyfeale won a corner from which goalkeeper Chris Carey made a brilliant goal line save from a point blank header to deny Abbeyfeale the lead. This spurred Adare into action. Some fine interplay between David Connolly and Stephen Sheehan resulted in a fine save by the Abbeyfeale goalie. Abbeyfeale responded with a shot that hit the Adare post. By this stage David Connolly, Shane OConnor and Stephen Sheehan were beginning to cause problems for the Abbeyfeale defence. A great through ball the middle from Shane OConnor set up David Connolly with a great chance to put Adare in front but was smothered by the Abbeyfeale goalkeeper. In the 25th minute a long clearance from Chris Carey went over the Abbeyfeale defence and Stephen Sheehan harried the retreating Abbeyfeale defender who put the ball past the Abbeyfeale keeper and Adare went in at half time with a slender lead.
Abbeyfeale came out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing and had several chances to equalise however the Adare back four of Sean Clarke, Eoghan Costelloe, Robert Lewis and Eoin Ryan were resolute. David OMahony, Mark Connolly and Hugh Bourke were playing a critical defensive midfield role in front of the back four stymieing the Abbeyfeale attacks. With 10 minutes remaining man of the match David Connolly got the critical 2nd goal for Adare that secured the 3 points when he broke through the Abbeyfeale defence following fine work from Stephen Sheehan and lobbed the Abbeyfeale keeper. This was a match that every Adare player worked extremely hard and every player made a huge contribution. A Special mention for goalie Chris Carey who made several important saves to keep Adare in the match. Two matches left and all to play for. Well done lads!
Panel from: Chris Carey, Sean Clarke, Eoin Ryan, Eoghan Costelloe, Robert Lewis, Hugh Bourke, Mark Connolly, David Connolly, David OMahony, Stephen Sheehan, Shane OConnor, Calum Hourigan, Stephen Sheehan

Adare 2(4) Breska 2(3)
6-5 after penalties to Adare.
~ A big congratulations and well done to the Adare Ladies team on their Desmond Cup win last sunday morning (6.3.11).
They beat a strong Breksa side 6-5 after sudden death penalties in the semi-final of the Desmond Cup.
It was a tough game with Adare taking an early lead after Annette Casey chipped the Breska keeper beautifully.
It remained that way until the second half when Breska scored two early second half goals.
However all credit to Adare they were resilient and continued to battle their way back into the game and their hard work was justly rewarded with a fantastic finish by Evette Walsh.
The score stayed at 2-2 at full time and after extra-time. At the penalty stage Adare keeper,
Siobhan McNamara was superb in goal saving three penalties, leading Adare to win out 6-5 with the winner beautifully bagged by Maria Kelly. Every one of the Adare ladies played brilliantly and they thoroughly deserved their victory. Well done to all and their coach, Joe O'Flaherty, and bring on the final.

U10 Match Report
On Saturday 12th February we got restarted with our u10 league. It had been a frustrating few weeks as we were trying to get back to training and had a few friendly matches arranged but the weather went against us and we were faced with playing our first league game without any practise. This didn't deter the Adare lads though and they were rearing to go again. We played Shannonside at home and we were blessed to have the pick of twenty one players on the day. A fantastic turnout and it was evident that they were all looking forward to the second half of the season. We had to firstly congratulate one man before we started and that was Geoffrey Alfred who lately became the Munster U10 chess champion. We are all very proud of him. We started the game playing against a strong breeze in the first half but got off to a perfect start when Ronan Quinn got the ball and dribbled past a few defenders and coolly slotted the ball past the shannonside keeper. If we had the impression that we were going to score at will, we were mistaken as the visitors defended very well for the rest of the first half and put our defence under a bit of pressure with good attacks of their own, but our defence started like they finished the first half of the season and kept them at bay with good clearances and tackling. It was to remain one nil at half time. We had the strong breeze in the second half and started putting the visitors under immense pressure and it wasn't long before we had our second of the game from Bryan Flynn, more goals followed from Daragh Crocker and Anthony Harty and a second from Quinn put the game out of reach from the visitors. Overall the lads played very well for their first game back and all can be proud of their display. The squad on the day was, Finn Morrissey, Thomas McCarthy, Cian Kirwan, Tom Feighan, Emmet Moore, Geoffrey Alfred, Ronan Quinn, Bryan Flynn, Connor o Flaherty, Anthony Harty, Sean Connolly, Eoghan Collins, Gearoid Harnett, Harry O Donnell, Tim Murphy, Donagh Morrissey, Stephen Buckley, Tommy Crowley, Harry O Donnell, Michael o Donnell, Daragh Crocker
Under 14 Cup Match Report
Adare 12 1 Shannonside
Adare progressed to the next round of the under 14 cup with an easy win over Shannonside at Deerpark. Adare got off to a flying start and were 3 nil up after less than 10 minutes thanks to goals from Stephen Sheehan, David OMahony and David Connolly. Shannonside pulled it back to 3 1 before Hugh Bourke responded with another goal for Adare to make it 4 1. More goals followed from Stephen Sheehan, Shane OConnor, David OConnor and David OMahony to leave the score 8 1 at half time. Adare made several changes for the 2nd half. However all credit is due to Shannonside as they kept trying to play their way back into the game. Super sub Calum Hourigan made his mark on the game with a brace of goals. David OConnor scored a fine second goal and David OMahony wrapped up a splendid performance with his third goal of the match and eleventh of the season. Shannonside were just unlucky they met Adare on top form and the scoreline did not reflect the fine passages of play from them. In goals Chris Carey saw plenty of action and had to make a couple of fine saves.
Adare from: Chris Carey, Sean Clarke, Eoin Ryan, Robert Lewis, Eoghan Costelloe, Hugh Bourke, David OConnor, David OMahony, David Connolly, Stephen Sheehan, Shane OConnor, Stephen Conway, Calum Hourigan, Luke Buckley, Josh McAteer, Stephen Evans.

Under 14 Division 1
Granagh Utd 1 1 Adare Utd
Last Saturday Adare travelled to near neighbours Granagh for a crucial league match. Last September these sides were separated by a David OMahony goal in Deerpark in what was a very tight match. Today Adare were missing regular goalie Scott ORiordan as well as centre half Robert Lewis due to illness. This required a reshuffle with David Connolly reverting to centre half and Chris Carey deputising in goals. Despite this Adare started brightly and after 5 minutes Shane OConnor went close after being set up by some good play from Mike Mackey. The mid field was being tightly contested with some hard but clean tackles from each side. Up front Stephen Sheehan, recently recovered from Scarlet Fever, was causing problems for the Granagh backs. Adare went close when David OConnor crossed from the right wing and Shane OConnors shot was deflected from goal for a corner. Granagh too were creating chances and it took a great save from Chris Carey to keep them out. However after 27 minutes Granagh took the lead with a well taken goal that left Carey with no chance.
Within 5 minutes Adare were back on level terms when David OMahony won a free kick just outside the Granagh penalty area. The Granagh keeper was unable to hold Davids curling free kick and Stephen Sheehan showing great strikers instinct was on hands to nudge the ball in the Granagh net.
The 2nd half began with renewed vigour from Adare. Mike Mackey was causing huge problems on the right wing for the Granagh defence and he created chances fro Stephen Sheehan, David OMahony and Hugh Bourke in quick succession. Adare were beginning to play with great confidence and even left full back Eoin Ryan was put through by Shane OConnor but his shot just went wide. As the match progressed Adare began to dominate the game in all areas of the field. With minutes left David Connolly collected the ball in midfield and went on an amazing run beating 3 or 4 Granagh players. With just the goalkeeper to beat his chip shot over the goalie went agonisingly just over the bar. Shortly after this the referee blew up for full time. Honours shared the Adare lads were disappointed afterwards considering how they had played. The league title is still there for both teams but the result will have favoured Newcastlewest most of all.
There were great performances from this Adare team. In particular Captain Eoghan Costelloe who got out of his sick bed gave 100% particularly in the 2nd half. There were outstanding performances from Eoin Ryan, Hugh Bourke, Mike Mackey and the Connolly brothers. However it was a great team performance with every player giving 120%.
Adare from: Chris Carey, Mark Connolly, Eoin Ryan, David Connolly, Eoghan Costelloe, Mike Mackey, Hugh Bourke, David OConnor, Shane OConnor, David OMahony, Stephen Sheehan, Sean Clarke, Calum Hourigan, Josh McAteer, Stephen Conway, Alex Boylan.

Ladies Desmond Cup Quarter Final
Sunday 12th December 2010
Rathkeale FC 1 - 2 Adare Utd
On Sunday 12th December Adare Ladies travelled to Rathkeale for the Quarter Final of the Desmond Cup. Adare Ladies, who are in Division 1 were really up against it taking on Rathkeale, a Premier Division side. Adare got stuck in straight from the start and an early goal from Caoimhe Costelloe really settled the side. Adare ladies were on top for much of the first half with good performances in the middle of the field from Laura Hourigan and Evette Walsh, but didnt have it all their own way with Rathkeale applying lots of pressure for a spell before half time. The back four of Joanne DeLoughrey, Juliet Twohig, Claire McNamara and Susan Howard were very solid as usual and soaked up the pressure to leave the score at 1 0 to Adare at half time.
Both teams had a number of chances in the second half but it was to be Shauna Lohan for Adare that capitalised first after taping in the ball after a rebound off the post. This 2 0 lead gave Adare the confidence to continue to march forward and the front two of Caoimhe Costelloe and Claire OKeefe had a number of chances for a third goal but were unable to convert. Again Rathkeale came back strongly and put significant pressure on Adare. Goalkeeper Siobhan McNamara was given plenty to do in the second half and a strong performance from her kept the score at 2 0 until about five minutes to go when Rathkeale converted a penalty. The Adare backline had to soak up significant pressure for the last five minutes to fight off the efforts of Rathkeale and keep them from scoring an equaliser but again, a combined strong performance by the back four left the final score at 2 1 to Adare.
This was a very strong overall team performance from the Adare Ladies but player of the match must be awarded to Caoimhe Costelloe for her strong effort and tough fighting spirit throughout the game.

Adare Utd (6) Breaska Rovers (2)
Our last two league games were against Breska a fortnight ago and Shannonside Saturday last. Breska gave us a stern test and even though we came through this game 6-2 winners the score line didn't accurately reflect the way the game went on the day. Breska were camped in Adares half for the entire second period and only for good goalkeeping and excellent defending the score line could have been a lot different. However a win is a win and maximum points were achieved. We met Shannonside Saturday knowing that a win would give us a 100% record for the first half of the season. The lads kitted out in their new strip on the day and looked pretty good. We hoped their play would be the same. We were not disappointed. After four games and hard training for the last few months it seemed that everything Adare were learning all year, passing, running of the ball and supporting each other all came together on the day. Adare gave what can only be described as an exhibition of football and scored some goals which would not be seen in the premiership on a Saturday. From keepers to defence, midfield and forwards, each and every player was brilliant. It was a joy to watch, it was poetry in motion, and it was Adare U10 soccer team. Goals on the day from Ronan Quinn, Geoffrey Alfred, Bryan Flynn and Connor o Flaherty assured a win which firmly keeps us in top spot in the league table. The management of the team could not have asked for more from the squad and can only say congratulations on an astounding performance. We had 17 players on the day and the squad turn out all year has been fantastic. The second game also saw excellent performances from all involved and we cannot stress enough that the success of the team so far is due to the full squad, and we hope that players keep turning out and training because each player is putting pressure on others for places. Keep up the good work. The squad on the day was Sean Connolly, Anthony Harty, Ronan Quinn, Bryan Flynn, Emmet Moore, Cian Kirwan, Donagh Morrissey, Daniel Twomey, Steven Buckley, Gearoid Harnett Browne, Geoffrey Alfred, Harry o Donnell, Eoghan Collins, Michael o Donnell, Connor o Flaherty, Finn Morrissey, and Tom Feighan.

Under 14 Div 1 Match Report
Broadfor Utd (2) Adare Utd (5)
On Saturday 6th November Adare travelled to Broadford to play their 4th match of the current league campaign. Adare started brightly and Stephen Sheehan was unfortunate not to put Adare ahead after just 5 minutes following some fine work by David OConnor. Despite the fine start Adare went 1 nil down after 15 minutes when Broadford caught Adares back four with a quick counter attack which left keeper Scott ORiordan with no chance. Less than 5 minutes later a similar attack left Adare 2 nil down and it seemed Adare were facing an uphill battle to salvage this match. Despite this the Adare lads kept their heads and continued to play neat passing football and continued to win the key battle in midfield where David Connolly was beginning to dominate. Adare got their rewards 10 minutes to half time when David OMahony converted from close range following a free kick won by Stephen Sheehan. Five minutes later centre forward Stephen Sheehan who was creating a lot of chances got his just reward when he equalised for Adare. Two all at half time and Adare heads were up. Adare went out in the second half and began to press their opponents more and more. 15 minutes into the second half Mike Mackey pounced on a loose ball in penalty area to put Adare in front for the first time. Broadford nearly equalised but for a fine save from keeper Scott ORiordan but a few minutes later Stephen Sheehan capped off a fine performance with his second goal. Finally David OMahony got a well deserved second to make the score 5 2 to Adare. A breath taking performance considering the fact that Adare were 2 nil down after 10 minutes! Every player in an Adare shirt played their part in an excellent team performance. There were outstanding performances from brothers Mark and David Connolly, Eoin Ryan and Stephen Sheehan. Also Eoghan Costelloe and Robert Lewis kept things tight at the centre of defence while Shane OConnor and his namesake David were excellent on the wings. David OMahony gave another sterling display to bring his tally for the season to 7 goals while Mike Mackey caused problems all day for the Broadford defence.

TEN WOMEN ADARE BEAT THE ODDS IN DESMOND CUP
Adare 1, Glin Rovers 0
Sunday 7th November in Deerpark saw our ladies team go a small way to avenging their League Cup defeat by Glin Rovers. The omens didn't look good before the start of the game as the home side struggled to fill the team sheet with many key players having other commitments. However the ten that took the field decided that the best way to deal with the problem was to 'just go for it'. And go for it they did. It was difficult at times to see which of the two teams had the fewer players such was the domination of the Adare side at times. It wasn't all Adare though, the result could have been very different had Glin converted some of their goalscoring opportunities. On another day the ball would have hit the back of the net. However such was the resolve of the home side that the defence held firm and in truth Siobhan McNamara standing between the sticks had very little to do at times but pulled off one truly match winning save diving low to her right.
Claire O'Keefe, playing as the lone striker harried and hurried Glin Rovers throughout the opening minutes and could easily have scored. Mid way through the first half however it was from a mid field breakaway by Evette Walsh that the opening score was gained, with Evette receiving the ball from the ever reliable Nuala O'Flaherty, going on a lone run and converting the effort with the outside of her right boot. 1-0 to the home side. It was pretty much end to end stuff after this and the young legs of Caoimhe Costello down the right wing were providing more and more opportunities. Joanne DeLoughrey was having probably her best game of the season so far at right back and Susan Howard at left back was commanding the position. Claire McNamara and Juliet Twohig completed the back four and were solid and reliable throughout the game. Maria Kelly completed the line up on the left side of midfield and although it took her a while to come into the game, once she did the Glin players found it difficult to handle her.
The final few minutes of the game seemed to go on forever as Glin pressed for the equaliser and they dominated for the final five minutes but Adare's defence held firm, not only from the back four but throughout the whole side. As one player said as she left the field, 'perhaps we'll play with ten every week'. Probably not the answer but if the team were to show this fight, spirit and heart each week the results would come.
Team: Siobhan McNamara, Claire McNamara (c), Susan Howard, Juliet Twohig, Joanne DeLoughrey, Maria Kelly, Nuala O'Flaherty, Evette Walsh (1), Caoimhe Costello, Claire O'Keefe.
SFAI U/14 Goodson Cup 2nd Round

SFAI Cup 2nd round - Fenit Samphires 3 0 Adare Utd
Last Saturday Adare under 14s made the trip down to Fenit for the 2nd round of the Goodson Cup. There was a warm welcome from the local club who kindly laid on tea, snacks and sandwiches for the visitors. Adare started very brightly and were soon putting pressure on the Fenit goal. In quick succession Stephen Sheehan, David OMahony and David Connolly all went close. Adare were playing excellent football stringing passes together but the elusive breakthrough goal failed to materialise and the game remained nil all by half time. In the 2nd half Adare faced a strong wind allied with a sloping pitch and Fenit began to exploit their advantage. The breakthrough came 15 minutes from time when the referee awarded Fenit a penalty kick against captain Eoghan Costelloe which seemed harsh given the tightness of the match. It was clinically converted and Fenit went one up. A few minutes later an excellent shot by David Connolly went just over the bar but a couple of minutes later Fenit went 2 up and Adare heads dropped. A third goal followed which gave a distorted result to a game which Adare dominated for long periods. However the game was played in a good spirit and Fenit were generous in their praise of the football played by Adare. Despite the loss there were some fine performances from Adare players such as fullbacks Eoin Ryan and Mark Connolly, Mike Mackey and Shane OConnor caused constant problems for the Fenit defence. It was just one of those frustrating days but if the boys keep playing this brand of football the rewards will come.
A special word of thanks to all the parents who gave up their Saturday to transport the boys to Fenit and also to the Fenit Samphires club for their generous hospitality to the Adare visitors.

Under 10 League Div 4 Match Report
Adare Utd (5) v Ferry Rangers(0)
Saturday 23rd October 2010
Our latest league game came with a visit by ferry rangers to Adare Saturday afternoon. We had maximum points from our games so far and wanted to keep it that way. We started the game well dominating the early possession but it took us a while to get our scoring touch going. The deadlock was broke ten minutes in from a good Ronan Quinn strike. This seemed to settle the lads and a short time later we added a second and went in two up at half time. The second half started much the same and any attack from ferry was dealt with well by the defence of Thomas McCarthy, Cian Kirwan and Eoghan Collins who tackled fiercely throughout. Any attack that got past was dealt with very well by our keeper Donagh Morrissey who is gaining in confidence with every match. Our midfield of Quinn, Bryan Flynn, Anthony Harty and Sean Connolly kept the ferry defence busy with probing runs down the wings and constantly delivering good crosses into the box where Tom Feighan was unlucky not to have got on the end of some. We added to our tally in this half with goals from Flynn, Dale Griffin, Connor o Flaherty and Paddy Fitz who all came on in the second half to great effect. Also on in the second half was Gearoid Harnett Browne, Tommy Crowley and Michael o Donnell who all played excellent. That's three from three and maximum points maintained. Well done to all.
Under 14 League Div1 Match Report
Adare Utd(4) v Abbeyfeale Utd (1)
Saturday 23rd October 2010
Adare welcomed Abbeyfeale to Deerpark last Saturday for their third outing in Division 1. Adare started brightly and early on Shane OConnor was unlucky not to convert a David OConnor cornier when he just headed over from close range. The breakthrough came after 13 minutes with a well taken goal by David OMahony. Within 5 minutes Adare were awarded a penalty when centre forward Stephen Sheehan was taken down. Despite a well hit shot David OMahonys effort hit the post and Abbeyfeale remained one down. The afore mentioned Stephen Sheehan was causing huge difficulties for the Abbeyfeale backs and a few minutes later was unlucky not to score after a fine through ball from David OMahony. Just before half time Adares second goal came via a superb 30 yard shot from David OMahony which will surely rank as one of the finest goals scored in Deerpark.
The second half resumed with Adare still 2 nil up but the Abbeyfeale defence proved to be stubborn and despite dominating midfield Adare found it difficult to get the elusive 3rd goal. Abbeyfeale nearly got back in the match when a lopping shot was superbly saved by Adare goalie Scott ORiordan. Adare kept pressing and both Mike Mackey and Stephen Sheehan were unlucky not to get their names on the score sheet before David Connolly wrapped up the points with a well taken goal following some fine work by Shane OConnor. Shortly afterwards David OMahony wrapped up a superb performance by notching up his hat trick. Abbeyfeale pulled one back before the final whistle and the match ended 4 1 to Adare.
While David OMahony deserves special mention for an excellent display and a tremendous hat trick it must be also said that the entire team performed excellently. In particular Eoghan Costelloe and Mark Connolly had outstanding displays while David OConnor, Stephen Sheehan and Shane OConnor were prominent throughout. Well done lads and onto to Fenit for the next round of the cup.
Adare from: Scott ORiordan, Mark Connolly, Eoin Ryan, Eoghan Costelloe, Robert Lewis, David Connolly, David OMahony, David OConnor, Shane OConnor, Stephen Sheehan, Mikey Mackey, Luke Buckley, Sean Clarke, Stephen Conway, Calum Hourigan, Ernestas Beresna, James Costello, Cathal Reynolds.

U10 Match Report
U10 League Div 4 Killeaney 3 Adare Utd 6
We played our second game of the league on Saturday morning against Killeaney. We had won our first game and we wanted to keep our winning ways going but Killeaney also had victory in their first match so we knew we were going to face a stern test. We were missing some players on the day but there was more than capable players available to fill in. We started brightly and went on the attack straight away and after only about two minutes Ronan Quinn struck a beauty low to the keepers left to put us one up. A perfect start. This settled the lads. Killeaney had plenty of possession also in this half and would have scored more but for our defence of Cian Kirwan, Emmett Moore and Gearoid Harnett Brown, and some excellent goal keeping from Donagh Morrissey. We conceded one but went in 3-1 up at half time. Finn Morrissey went in goal in the second half and Thomas McCarthy came in for Gearoid. Both players played brilliant in this half and there was more excellent performances in mid field from Rona Quinn, Geoffrey Alfred, Anthony Harty and Eoghan Collins and of course our goal scorer supreme Connor O Flaherty who showed his gaol scoring ability by helping himself to a couple on the day. Also on the score sheet was Geoffrey Alfred and Eoghan Collins and we controlled this half very well. Also Tim Murphy, Paddy Fitzgerald, and Tommy Crowley showed what they were capable of and played with hunger and passion, Fitzgerald unlucky not to hit the net on a couple of occasions. Overall we were delighted with the performances from everyone and kept our 100% record going with two wins from two. Well done to all.

U/14 League Division 1 Adare Utd 2 Newcastlewest 8
In our second home match we faced an impressive Newcastlewest team who scored a comprehensive victory over Adare. While Newcastle were impressive winners the scoreline did not reflect how well Adare played. Despite playing some good football Adare found themselves 5 nil down after 25 minutes. Just before half time 2 quick goals in succession closed the gap to 3 and gave Adare some hope that they could maybe close the gap. The first was an impressive strike from Hugh Bourke and the second a well struck free kick from David OMahony. However as the second half progressed Newcastle scored 3 more times to confirm an emphatic win to put them at the top of the league. Despite this defeat Adare can take some solace from great performances from Robert Lewis, Eoin Ryan and Mick Mackey in particular. There is no doubt that better days will follow for Adare if they continue to play passing attacking football.

Under 14s Match Report
Adare Utd 1 Granagh 0
Adare got the new campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought win over a resolute Granagh team in Deerpark last Saturday. The home side dominated in the first 15 minutes but were unable to apply the finishing touch to some good build up work by David OMahony and Mark Connolly in midfield. Adares defence were rock solid led by Captain Eoghan Costelloe and David Connolly in the central positions. However as the half progressed and Adare remained scoreless, Granagh fought their way back into the match and began to threaten the Adare goal where keeper Scott ORiordan was alert and easily handled any shots on his goal. Scoreless at half time Adare started the second half with a stronger sense of urgency and began to create more chances. Sixteen minutes into the 2nd half some nice work from Shane OConnor on the left wing put David OMahony through and he stylishly slipped the ball past the Granagh keeper to put Adare in front. Granagh tried to fight back but the Adare lads lifted their game and fought like tigers for the ball putting Granagh players under constant pressure. The 2 Adare full backs Sean Clarke and Eoin Ryan faced an onslaught but tackled hard but fair to prevent Granagh from equalising. Up front Stephen Sheehan was terrific as he harried and hounded the Granagh defence and he was ably assisted by Mike Mackey. All in all an excellent start for Adare to what promises to be a tough league campaign in the 1st division.
Its hard to pick out any one player from an excellent team performance but Man of the Match for Adare goes to Eoin Ryan for an outstanding display at left back.
Adare from: Scott ORiordan, Sean Clarke, Eoin Ryan, Eoghan Costelloe, David Connolly, Stephen Conway, David OMahony, David OConnor, Mark Connolly, Stephen Sheehan, Mike Mackey, Shane OConnor, Cathal Reynolds, Cillian Collins, Daniel Collins, James Costello, Daniel Collins, Sion Hickey.

Adare Utd 4 St Itas 0
We started our league campaign Saturday afternoon against St Itas at two thirty in deerpark. We had two friendly games played before this fixture and I think this stood well to the lads on the day.We had an excellent turn out on the day and thanks to all the lads. We started brightly but it took us five or six minutes to settle on the ball. After this we really started to create some good chances and scored in the seventh minute. This seemed to settle the lads and in reality we controlled the game from this point running out comfortable winners. Our defence played well and our midfield dominated and all players gave excellent accounts of themselves. Well done to all and training resumes in the manor complex Wednesday evening at 1830. The squad in full was Geoffrey Alfred, Cian Kirwan, Tom Feighan, Emmet Moore, Bryan Flynn, Sean Connolly, Ronan Quinn, Gearoid Harnett, Dale Griffin, Ryan Derwin, Daniel Twoomey, Donagh Morrissey, Eoghan Collins, Thomas McCarthy, Connor O Flaherty, Tim Murphy, Anthony Harty, Jack Lenihan, Stephen Buckley, Paddy Fitzjerald, Finn Morrissey
Sunday 12th September 2010
Adare Ladies 3, Askeaton Ladies 1.
Sunday 12th September saw the Adare Ladies take all three points in the opening game of their campaign. In fairness the scoreline doesn't really reflect how tough this game was against a relatively young and inexperienced Askeaton outfit, the visitors solitary goal was extremely well executed from a corner that should have been better defended. In the end it was experience that shone through for the home side with Nuala O'Flaherty bagging a brace playing at completely the opposite end of the field from her usual position but filling the strikers role superbly. In fact throughout the whole side Adare were quicker to the ball and stronger in the tackle but you can be sure Askeaton will be a different prospect come the return fixture. This season must be about consistency. Adare could always perform well against a top side but would drop points to teams that in all honestly should have been beaten. If a stable foundation can be put in place without enforced changes being made week to week then that will give the team something to build on. Well done to all on the day and in particular our two new signings Rachel McAteer and Shauna Lohan.
Team: Siobhan McNamara, Joanne DeLoughrey, Claire McNamara (c), Juliet Twohig, Orla Cribbin, Michelle Brennan, Anette Casey (1), Shauna Lohan, Susan Howard, Evette Walsh, Nuala O'Flaherty (2). Subs: Stephanie Mockler, Rachel McAteer (Howard).

Shannonside 1 Adare Utd 1
On Saturday we were visitors to Shanagolden to face a strong opposition in Shannonside. It was a perfeect day for a game but there was a strong breeze blowing. We were still on a high from our first outing and were looking forward to this game even though we were short a few players due to other commitments. We started off brightly and we were using the breeze to our advantage whenever we could. Again we had a few new faces in the team and it took a few minutes for us to settle down and begin to play our game. There was a lot of pressure from both sides but no real chances as both teams were very evenly matched. We then took the leads from a Nicky Derwin corner with the help of the breeze carrying the ball over the line direct from the corner kick. The Shannonside keeper was just caught off guard by the strength of the breeze but we were glad the accept the goal. both teams exchanged attacks and it was a real end to end game with neither side letting up. Our defence stood strong throughout the game with our centre two of David Connolly and David O Mahony futting in outstanding performances. Our stand in keeper, Danny Lynch was called upon a couple of times and answered any questions that were asked of him. Things looked good for the most of the second half and we were holding out for what would be a great win. Unfortunately this was not to be the case and we conceded a goal with 6 minutes remaining. Overall this was probably a fair result and no doubt that the return fixture will be one to look forward to. It was another great team performance and keeps the momentum going forward into the next game. Panel : Danny Lynch, Aaron McCarthy, Eoin Costello, David Connolly, David O Mahony, Jack English, Nicky Derwin, Jason Griffin, David Cardy, Richard Costello, Charles McCarthy, David Collins

Adare 8 pallaskenry 2
Adare united got their season off to a winning start when the U16 team were the first in the club to begin this seasons campaign. We welcomed Pallaskenry to Adare and we were expecting a new venture with a few faces rejoining the club and only 3 players remaining from last years panel. both teams started well and it was set for a good game. Pallaskenry then broke the deadlock and we were caught a bit by surprise. We continued to threaten though and play our own game and deservedly equalised through Nicky Derwin. This scoreline was shortlived however with Pallas pressing forward and quickly scoring a second. Like before though we didn't panic or drop our heads and we soon leveled again through Christopher Carey. The scoreline remained level until halftime. After a quick break and some water, we took to the field again with something to prove and a lot more belief in ourselves. We took control of the game from here in and were never in danger again. Each and every player put in very credible displays and we got our rewards with further goals from Jack English (2) Nicky Derwin (2) Richard Costello and Christopher Carey. Over the second half this team showed its capabilities and we finished up comfortable winners with a scoreline of 8-2. This was a great performance and a fantastic way to start the new season. Panel : Conor Ryan, David Collins, Aaron McCarthy, James Canty, Danny Lynch, Jack English, Nicky Derwin, Jason Griffin, Killian Hannon, Christopher Carey, Richard Costello, John Wall, Declan Keane | |
