U8 Div 3 Shield Final
Adare 4 - 1 Askeaton

"I think we're going to be famous!" was the response from one of the awe-struck young lads as he tried to come to terms with the excitement, noise, crowd, atmosphere and general 'razmataz' that followed the final whistle of the U8 Div 3 Shield Final on Sunday last. It was a great day for the squad and a little bit of history was also made in that it was the first time an U8 team had won a title for the club.
Adare were in control of the match right from the off with striker Michael Keane keeping the Askeaton defense busy by embarking on his trademark runs at the opposition defense. With Cathal O' Neill supporting from midfield, it was only a matter of time before one of these attacks would break the deadlock. This duly happened on the 9th minute when the ball eventually broke to O'Neill who finished to the net from close range.
O'Neill scored again on the 13th minute with a speculative long range strike that finished in the top left hand corner.
The team were settled into a good rhythm at this stage with midfielders Joe Sweeney and Cian Kirwan controlling the middle third and providing the ammunition for Keane and O'Neill going forward. In defense, Daniel Twomey and Gavin Collins performed admirably providing cover for goalkeeper and captain, Adam O' Callaghan, who's handling and kickouts were assured all day. Adare finished the half with a 3-0 lead when an unfortunate clearance from the Askeaton 'keeper hit off O'Neill and rebounded into the net to complete his hat-trick.
In the second half fresh legs were introduced by way of Aaron Leahy, Emmet Moore and Aaron O' Sullivan all of whom performed well to maintain their teams dominance over proceedings. A fourth goal for O'Neill on 22 minutes to round off a great personal performance was followed on 34 minutes by a fine goal from a free kick by Askeaton's Sam Duggan who blasted over Adare's defensive wall to the roof of the net.
As the final whistle blew, the happiness and excitement on the faces of all the lads in the squad as they celebrated together was a joy to behold. It's their first taste of success in this, the 'beautiful game'
- let's hope it leads to many more in the future!
Squad on the day: Adam O' Callaghan, Gavin Collins, Daniel Twomey, Joe Sweeney, Cian Kirwan, Cathal O' Neill, Michael Keane, Aaron Leahy, Emmet Moore, Aaron O' Sullivan, Daragh Collins, Hugh Lawler, Michael O'
Mahony, Mark Twomey

Under 12 Match Report
Adare bow out of cup after brave display!
Our U12 team lost their semi final cup game against an impressive Ballingarry side last week. We knew going into this match that it was going to be a tall order to come away with a win but the lads equipped themselves very well and put up an excellent fight. Even the Ballingarry side I think were surprised with the Adare display and they had to work hard all through the game for their victory. The visiting side were the first to open the scoring with a well taken shot that was just too high for our keeper to do anything about. But it was Adare who hit back next when we won a free kick that was sent into the box. The attempted clearance was blocked down and Hourigan was quickest to react and struck the ball to the roof of the net to level matters.
Ballingarry took the lead again shortly after when a good through ball was played but it was most unfortunate when a bit of a lack of communication caused our defender to deflect the ball past our keeper with his brave attempt to clear the danger. A bit of luck for the visiting side there to go two one up. But again Adare failed to let the heads drop and kept the pressure on Ballingarry and our persistence was to pay off when we won a free kick just outside and it was beautifully tucked into the top corner. Their keeper made a great attempt to save but just could not keep it out. I think this was when the Ballingarry side realised that they were up against a side that were not going to be easy to put away. In the closing stages of the first half they upped the tempo and got their third from a break down the right and their fourth from a most fortunate free kick which just crept over the line to go 4-2 up.
Even 4-2 down Adare Management were very happy with their display with all players giving 110%. Ballingarry closed out the first half with another goal to go in 5-2 up. It may sound that the visitors had an easy time of it but in reality this could not be farther from the truth as they had to fight hard for their scores. The second half was another closely fought contest with both teams giving it all but Ballingarry were next to score again from a excellent break when they turned defence into attack and got their sixth. You would have thought that any team would have given up with six gone past them but Adare failed to give up and kept hassling, chasing and giving their all to the very end and they were rewarded with a goal in the closing stages when they broke down the left, Dan Curley put a great ball across the box and poacher supreme Oran Collins was there to slot home. This was the least the lads deserved. It was a pleasure to see the lads coming off the field with their heads high after a fabulous performance. The management of Adare could not have been prouder of the efforts the lads put in, not just for this match but all through the year and it was an honour to be involved with a great bunch. We also like to wish the lads going up to the U14 squad the best of luck.
The squad in full is, Killian O'Shaughnessy, Samuel McCormack, Luke Mackessy, Eoin Ryan, Cathal Reynolds, Reece Gavin, Sam Sorenson, Jonathon Hyde, Steven Conway, Dan Curley, Steven Evans, Mickey Mackey, Padraig O Neill, Callum Hourigan, Oran Collins, Sean Fitzpatrick, Sion Hickey, James Costello, Shane Heffernan, Gearoid Kirwan, Kurt Dillon, Sean Pacnahad, Ronan Charters, Jack Canty, Luke Cardy

A development coaching plan for Adare Utd Football Club
I am proposing the following to Adare Utd Football Club: I will put in place a development coaching plan for age groups from u8s to youths.
The development plan will be based on West Ham Utd's own development strategies they use at their academy at Chadwell Heath, London, England.
Each age group will recieve a minimum of one coaching session per week, during this session a football specific topic will be taught to the appropraite age group. Session plans will be produced and available for managers/coaches of each age group, in the session plans each will consist of a warm-up and cool-down and then topic on any of the following-passing, dribbling, ball control, shooting, heading, small sided games, grid work, fitness, nutrition information, technical and tactical methods of play.
Each session will last 1hour in duration and there will be a progression from u8's up to youth teams that will be ability linked, the higher the ability the more technical the drills, the younger the age group the more basic/beginner level will be taught. That means every session is able to account for the players that are learning the game and the players who need to be pushed and tested to challenge their talent.
Differentiation is key to delivering a well-planned and organised football session, at the same time ensuring each player has fun and is taught in an environment they can flourish in and learn the social benefits from being in a team/club surrounding.
As mentioned a development plan will be produced and presented to each age groups manager/coach, this can be used for reference when they are taking sessions themselves, also players/managers or coaches can always ask questions on anything they want explained in greater detail.
In my experience working with clubs, academies, schools or other groups having a development plan in place that a club can follow will only help benefit the club and players involved, it gives a platform for every player to learn and improve at their own pace.
My own background in football coaching goes back 16 years, over this time I have coached many different levels of football ranging from u4's up to senior football and from club level to district level, county level and onto professional academy level football. I have obtained my level 1 and level2 F.A Coaching qualifications and am in the process of completing my level 3 UEFA `A` licence.
I hope this gives you an outline into what I would like to roll out at your club and I am more than welcome to answer any questions or concerns you might have on the whole concept of being a development coach for Adare Utd F.C.
Yours thankfully
Scott Haworth
West Ham Utd F.C Development Coach/Scout

Desmond Ladies League Awards Night
The Desmond Ladies League Annual Social and Awards night was held on April 9th, 2010 in the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine. The Adare Ladies team and manager Paul Hyde attended on the night and a great night was had by all. Music on the night was provided by Jason Fallon who kept everyone dancing well into the small hours. Adare’s Niamh Sheehan won an award for player of the match in the League Cup Final which Adare sadly lost to Glin on penalties, and Paul Hyde won a special award for his contribution to the Ladies League during the year and for his help in producing the calendars for the league. Special guests on the night included former Republic of Ireland player and manager Eoin Hand, Sean Kelly MEP, two International players from the Irish Ladies team and Seamus Moran, ex actor from Fair City. Thank you to the committee of the Ladies League and especially to the Chairperson, Adare’s own Marie Hoare, for organising this event. Hopefully Adare will be attending next year’s event to collect some silverware.

Adare Utd Under 12's Match Report
Adare Utd 1 - 0 Killeaney
Adare finished the league campaign on a high Monday afternoon with a hard fought one nil win against Kileaney. We had the league title surrendered before this game as we had a bad run of results from our last few games. We had only earned one point from our last four games. How we went from winning six games on the trot and genuine title contenders to earning only one point from four games was baffling. Maybe a bit of complacency crept in after winning so many on the trot. Also we were not helped with the unfortunate injuries to Eoin Ryan and Mickey Mackey but in reality what lacked was the fire and passion that we had played with for the first half of the season. This was especially evident against Breska who we had trounced six one in the cup earlier in the season but we were beaten four nil in this game. However it was the performance of two players in this match which showed the passion we all had played with before and that was Steven Evans and Reece Gavin who fought tooth and nail for everything and this was the type of commitment we wanted to see back from all the squad for the last game of the league. In fairness to the lads they didn't disappoint. Kileaney had given us a tough battle before and this game was no different. Their defence was difficult to break down even though Adare created the best of the early chances. Adare were comfortable in the first half and any attack from the visiting side was dealt with by our defence and the safe hands of our stand in keeper Jack Canty who is the u10 keeper but helped out his u12 colleagues when our regular keepers were unavailable. It was to remain scoreless at the break. We were boosted with the return of Mickey Mackey for the game and he made his entrance for the second half, and was to have a major say in the outcome of the match. With some good attacks after the break we pushed forward to get the elusive goal and were fortunate when we were caught too far forward and kileaney broke. With their attacker through with only the keeper to beat Canty ran out to narrow the angle and the kileaney man shot wide. A let off for Adare but this spurred Adare on and with only two minutes to go Oran Collins made a great break and played a super through ball into the path of Mackey and he made no mistake in slotting past the Kileaney keeper. What a return for the lad. We held out for a hard earned but well deserved win and well done to all the lads who got back a bit of fire in the belly for this game. It was a great boost with our cup semi final coming up against Ballingarry next week

April 17th
Under 8 Match Report
Adare 3 - 1 Kilcornan
Another beautiful Saturday morning in Deerpark was the setting for our second round cup match against Kilcornan having got past Killeaney away from home the previous Saturday in the first round. Adare got off to the perfect start after 3 minutes with a goal from midfielder Cathal O' Neill and this was followed up with a second goal in the 11th minute by striker Michael Keane. Adare seemed to be well in control at this stage and indeed Keane was unlucky not to add another when a powerful drive crashed off the post in the 16th minute. Dan Twomey and Gavin Collins in defense were snuffing out any threats during this period while Joe Sweeney and Cian Kirwan were working hard in midfield to supply the offensive threat of Keane and O'Neill. However, towards the end of the first half Kilcornan came more into the game and some impressive long range shooting from their No. 6 was starting to cause difficulties for Adare. Michael Southgate in goal brought off a good save from one of these long range efforts to maintain Adare's 2-0 lead as the half time whistle blew.
The second half began as the first ended with Kilcornan threatening and they eventually managed to breach the Adare defense in the 26th minute with a low drive to the bottom left hand side that made it all the way to the net. It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the half and our set-piece defensive wall, which improved significantly in the second half, saved us on a couple of occasions from dangerous Kilcornan opportunities. With time running out Kilcornan committed more players to attack in an effort to get an equalizer. However, this left them exposed at the back and when O'Neill latched onto a quick clearance from our substitute goalkeeper, Adam O'Callaghan, he was never going to be caught and duly finished to the net for his second of the day.
The squad in attendance were: Michael Southgate, Daniel Twomey, Gavin Collins, Joe Sweeney, Cathal O' Neill, Cian Kirwan, Michael Keane, Adam O' Callaghan, Aaron O' Sullivan, Hugh Lawler, Darragh Collins, Cathal Mulcaire, Aaron Leahy, Thomas McCarthy, Mark Twomey, Eoghan Collins, Emmet Moore.
Adare U12 Match Report
Kildimo FC 0 - 0 Adare Utd
Adare U12s had three games in quick succession lately. We needed to keep our good run of form up if we were to keep out title hopes alive. Our first game was against Creeves who were going well themselves and we started well enough and took the lead from a Sean Fitz strike. As has happened lately we took our foot of the gas and let Creeves back in to the game and they equalised towards the end of the half with a powerful strike which gave our keeper no chance.
The second half was tit for tat but we found it difficult to find that final pass to break their defence and then with a few minutes left Creeves broke down the left wing and scored what was to be the winner. Our next game was against St. Itas and this was also to prove to be a bad result for us as we went down 3-2. We had taken the lead twice in this game, both coming from Callum Hourigan but again surrendered the lead and the as we fought hard for the winner. It was St Itas who had a bit of good fortune that evening as a hopeful free kick was lobbed into the box and was just a little too high for our keeper and it fell into the net for a sucker punch for Adare.
We were now anxious to put this misfortune behind us as we played Kildimo Saturday morning last. We really needed a win here but like the previous few game even though we had lots of possession we still failed with the final ball and couldn't score. Kildimo had a few chances themselves but it wasn't to be anybody's day as a scoreless draw was played out. We really missed the services of Eoin Ryan who had broke a bone in his hand and he was joined by Mickey Mackey who also broke a bone in his finger. We also had Cathal Reynolds away on holidays and even though we had lots of cover we really missed the impact of these players.
The league seems to be out of our hands at this stage but we still have Breska to play and a cup semi so we are not giving up just yet. Well played to all the lads and roll on Breska.

Under 14 Match Report
Adare 0 - 1 St. Ita's
Adare played St Ita’s last Thursday night in our second last match of this season’s campaign. Adare were missing 2 of our most experienced players with Captain Jason Griffin out injured and Eoghan Costelloe unavailable on the night. This meant a reshuffle which saw Danny Lynch turning out at Centre Half and John David Keogh reverting to full back. The first half was a lively affair with both sides creating good chances to score but failing to convert. The second half continued in the same vein until St Ita’s got the breakthrough goal after 20 minutes. Adare made tactical switches with David Connolly moving to midfield and Nick Derwin playing centre forward. However the equalising goal proved elusive. Declan Keane made a terrific save to prevent Adare going further behind but despite all the pressure from Adare the St Ita’s defence remained solid and only a terrific interception prevented Richie Costello from snatching a draw for Adare in the final minutes. Fair dues to St Ita’s for a committed performance. In fairness to both teams there was some excellent football played in a terrific spirit with no yellow cards giving referee Pat O’Connor an easy game to oversee. The Adare lads have one final match against league leaders Breska on Saturday to pick themselves up and end the season on a high note.
Adare from: Declan Lynch, JD Keogh, Shane O’Connor, David Connolly, Danny Lynch, Killian Hannon, Nicky Derwin, Hugh Bourke, Stephen Sheehan, Chris Carey, Scott O’Riordan, Alex Boylan, David Cardy, Richie Costelloe, Stephen Conway.

Under 12 Match Report
Adare 9 – 0 Carrig Celtic
Our latest league game was against Carrig Celtic Saturday. We needed a win to go top of the league and the lads didn't disappoint. In reality it was an easy win against a spirited but outclassed Carrig side. It was a big game for some as they made their first starts, such as Kurt Dillon, Sean Pacnahad, Steven Evans and Ronan Charters who all gave good accounts of themselves and will keep the pressure on the others for their places. It was nine nil on the day but we played very well and scored some cracking goals from the likes of Stephen Conway who scored twice, and Callum Hourigan twice, Oran Collins kept his goal scoring tally up when he got one after coming on in the second half and a big impact today was made by the excellent Shane Heffernan who scored a hat trick, the other goal was an o.g. Subs used on the day were Sion Hickey, Dan Curley, Padraig o Neill and Oran Collins. Job done on the day and we look forward to our next outing. There is no training on Friday evening as the crescent is closed.
Under 12 Cup Quarter Final
Adare 3 – 2 Killeaney
We had our 3rd round cup game against a Killeaney side Saturday Morning. This was a side that put seven past their last opponents so we were expecting a close battle. We were not wrong. The game started with both teams attacking from the off and both defences were busy. We did have the better of the opening chances but it was Killeaney who got the first goal with a speculative shot which our keeper Killian O'Shaughnessy seemed to have covered but unfortunately the ball slipped through his legs and into the net. A bit fortunate for the visiting side but this only spurred Adare on again and we created a few good scoring chances coming close several times. The pressure told 15 in when Mickey Mackey who was excellent throughout equalised. Adare kept up the momentum and could have been a couple to the good but for some good saves from the Killeaney keeper, but he could do nothing about a screamer from Callum Hourigan in the 20th minute which shook the net, and put us one up. With the way the lads were playing the lead was very much deserved. It was tit for tat in the closing stages of the first half but Killeaney equalised just before the break with a good move down the left side and a good ball into the box which was tucked away. Two each at the break. The second half was much of the same from both teams. Our defence of Sion Hickey, Luke Mackessy, Cathal Reynolds and Padraig O Neill had to be on their toes all through the half. We used the wings to good effect and it was down the left wing where our next goal came from when Mackey got on the end of a good move and beat several defenders to calmly slot home. An excellent strike. The midfield of Sam Sorenson, Callum Hourigan, Jon Hyde and Steven Conway were excellent in this half and another fine performance from Reece Gavin in front of the mid field. Oran Collins, Dan Curley and Sean Fitz came on in the second half also to good effect and we saw out the rest of the half to progress to the next round of the cup. Well done to all again. Our next game is a league fixture at home on Thursday evening seven o clock against Creeves.

Match report for Adare v Shannonside U10 Division 3
Adare 4 Shannonside 1
On a glorious morning in Deerpark Adare, 2nd place played hosts to 3rd place. The game started very evenly with both sides having chances. Jack Canty in goal was stopping everything that came his way; Jack Fitzgerald & Tom Feighan were also clearing everything in defence. Adare broke the deadlock first with a very well taken goal from Cathal Scanlan. Shannonside equalised and the first half ended level. Adare came out strong in the second half with Jeffrey Alfred playing balls through to Adam Moroney and Brian Curtin in attack. Again Cathal Scanlan grabbed another excellent goal to give Adare the lead. Bryan Flynn, Conal Hourigan and Ryan Whitaker came on for Adare, and Conal Hourigan grabbed 2 excellent goals. The game finished 4 - 1 to Adare. Squad in full: Jack Canty, Jack Fitzgerald, Tom Feighan, Cathal Scanlan, Jeffrey Alfred, Brian Curtin, Adam Moroney, Conal Hourigan, Bryan Flynn, Ryan Whitaker.
U12 Match report Adare Utd 1 St Ita’s 0
Our league campaign continued with a home fixture against fourth placed St. Itas Saturday afternoon, who came into this game with an impressive goal tally in the league so our defence were going to be kept on their toes. At this stage we were still five points adrift of Breska but with three games in hand but we obviously needed to keep winning to keep the gap at a minimum. Adare started well and put the Itas defence under pressure straight away and were unlucky not to have taken the lead in the first three minutes. The early pressure told and Adare were rewarded with a well worked goal seven in when Dan Curley got the ball on the right and crossed to the far post where Sean Fitz was on hand to slot home. One up and the perfect start. We hoped to build on this good start but the opposite happened as Adare seemed to lose the momentum and Itas took control. They exerted pressure of their own on Adare and as we expected our defence of Eoin Ryan, Luke Mackessy, Padraig O'Neill and Luke Cardy had plenty to do in keeping them at bay. For the rest of the half Adare found themselves on the back foot and out keeper O'Shaughnessy was called into action twice in quick succession towards the end of the half with a fine stop from a free kick and then when a good through ball caught our defence napping Killian was quickest to react when he just got to the ball to snuff out a shot from the Itas attacker, he also saved the resulting rebound. A fine double save which kept us one up. The very last play of the half was a ball that found its way across our box to an unmarked Itas attacker and with an open goal at his mercy he hit it too high and it cleared the crossbar. We were very lucky to stay one up as the half time whistle came, with a sigh of relief from the Adare camp it has to be said. The Adare management were quick to tell the lads that the first half performance was not up to scratch as Adare were well capable of doing a lot better. Sam Sorenson, Oran Collins and Reece Gavin came in for the second half replacing Sion Hickey, Sean Fitz and James Costello who had done very well in the first half and as with last week they made an immediate impact, when Sorenson and Collins combined well to create a few good opportunities, with Collins unlucky twice not to have increased his goal tally. The second half saw a marked improvement with Adare again taking control of the game but found it difficult to get a second with Jonathon Hyde also unlucky with two good efforts, one from a free kick and another with a good strike well saved by the keeper. The best chance of the game came to the excellent Mickey Mackey who was all over the field when he found himself one on one with the Itas keeper and just as he pulled the trigger the ball bobbled and connected with his shin which took all the power and direction off the shot. An unfortunate result. Stephen Conway came in for the forever running Curley and did well in keeping the pressure on Itas for the rest of the game. Adare saw out the second half in relevant comfort and Killian was largely untroubled but we need to start taking more goals from the chances created. Three points on the day so job done. Well done to all, but watch out lads as there are the likes of Conal Hourigan, Kurt Dillon, Sean Packnad and company waiting for their chances.

Under 12’s Cup Match
Adare Utd 2 – 0 Bally Rovers
Adare u12s had their second round cup match Saturday morning against a Ballyrovers side who are a division below us but who are on top of their division with an impressive goal count and defensive record, so we were in no doubt that this was not going to be an easy game. After our demolition of a Breska side on our last outing confidence was high but there was a little pressure on to match that display. The game started with both sides attacking and the first half was quite evenly matched. Adare were first to score but it was ruled offside but gave us the confidence to take the game to Bally. Again our defence was excellent throughout and made sure that nothing got passed them even though at times we were under a bit of pressure to keep them out. It took 28 minutes to produce the first goal of the game and this came for Adare, with some good play down the right wing and a cross from Sorenson. The defender for Bally attempted to block but had his hands high and when the ball struck his arm the ref had an easy decision in awarding the penalty. Hourigan camly slotted home but took it before the ref was ready and had to retake it this time calmly slotting home to the other side of the keeper. It remained one nil at the break. The half time chat was positive but also the lads were also reminded that even though the first half was a decent preformance in reality we did not pressure Bally enough when they had the ball and allowed them far too much time on the ball. Aslo Adare were urged to use our wingers more in the second half which worked so well the week before against Breska. The hat trick hero on that day, Collins came on for the second half and the chat seemed to work straight away with a great break down the left wing and a shot from Mackey which the goaly could only parry and who was there to slot the rebound with his first touch of the day, only Oran Collins. A great start to the second half. For the rest of the game Adare were in control, and Bally didnt really have any clear cut chances. Their only close effort was a well taken free kick which came off the crossbar. Adare saw out the rest of the game in relevant comfort but we were a bit disappointed not to have increased our goal tally on the day. Well done to all. The full team on the day was, Killian O’Shaughnessy, Luke Mackessy, Padraig O’Neill, Eoin Ryan, Cathal Reynolds, Mike Mackey, Callum Hourigan, Sam Sorenson, Sion Hickey, Stephen Conway, Stevan Evans, Jonathon Hyde, Oran Collins, Luke Cardy.

Under 14’s
Granagh Utd 5 – Adare Utd 2
Adare under 14’s suffered only their 2nd league loss of the season last Saturday away to a lively Granagh team. Adare started brightly with Hugh Bourke causing problems for Granagh’s right back. After 20 minutes Adare broke the stalemate when Hugh Bourke won a corner which was coolly converted by midfielder Killian Hannnon. Despite this setback Granagh began to dominate the midfield exchanges and got a well deserved equaliser on the half hour mark. As the 2nd half developed Granagh began to dominate particularly in midfield and went 2 – 1 ahead after 15 minutes. This goal stunned the Adare players who found it increasingly difficult to break down the Granagh back line and 5 minutes later Granagh exploited the gaps in Adare’s defence to go 3 – 1 up. Scott O’Riordan was introduced as a substitute for Adare and immediately began to make his mark in the forwards. With 12 minutes to go Adare pressure paid off and Scott converted from close range to give Adare some hope of salvaging a point from the game. However as Adare pushed up players seeking the equaliser, Granagh scored 2 late goals to seal the points. It was just one of those days for Adare when nothing seemed to go right but Granagh belied their lowly league status for a well deserved win.
Despite the loss there were some solid displays from Adare’s Eoghan Costelloe, Shane O’Connor and Hugh Bourke. JD Keogh and Danny Lynch also battled hard. There are 2 matches left for Adare to put this setback behind them and finish the season on a high.

U12 CUP 1st ROUND
Breska Rovers 1 Adare Utd. 7
A thrilling display by Adare saw them progress to the second round of the U12 Cup against a physically strong Breska team. Two points in front of us in the league and the only team to beat us this year it was with much trepidation we travelled to Clarina for the opening round. On arrival at the ground the Breska team were already warming up and looked impressive, we knew this would be a physcial encounter. However Adare stepped up to the mark and matched the home side kick for kick and dominated for much of the first five minutes. It was against the run of play however that Adare failed to clear and Breska opened the scoring. Plenty of encouragement was offered from the sideline and slowly but surely Adare got into their stride and turned up the pressure. Keeping the ball moving swiftly, two touch football much in evidence Adare were truly impressive. In fairness to Breska they had plenty of chances but our defence held firm. Players of note on the day were Sean Fitzpatrick who opened the scoring for Adare, super sub Oran Collins who bagged a Hat-Trick, Eoin Ryan as solid as ever in defence and Mike Mackey who turned in a player of the match performance. Team: Samuel McCormac, Luke Mackessey, Eoin Ryan, Sion Hickey, Padraig O'Neill, Stephen Conway, Jonathan Hyde, Calum Hourigan (1), Sean Fitzpatrick (1), Shane Heffernan, Mike Mackey (2). Subs used: Oran Collins (3), Dan Curley, Reece Gavin, Luke Cardy, James Costelloe. Subs not used: Gearoid Kirwan, Conal Hourigan.

Fairyland League Cup Semi Final (Ladies)
ADARE 2, CREEVES 0
Adare's ladies progressed to their first ever final with a good win over determined opposition. Creeves have been somewhat of a bogey team for Adare in recent times, dropping points in the league to them for the past two seasons. Sheer determination, great skill on the ball and a greater physical presence ensured that it wasn't to be the case this time round. Team: Siobhan McNamara, Claire McNamara, Nuala O'Flaherty, Joann De Loughrey, Michelle Brennan, Karen Howard, Susan Howard, Laura Hourigan, Evette Walsh, Maria Kelly (1), Claire O'Keefe (1), Annette Casey.
U10 Div 3 Match Report
Kilcornan 1 Adare Utd 1
A top of the table clash took place on Saturday afternoon in Kilcornan with visitors Adare Utd. It was a foggy afternoon, but conditions were very good for the game. Both teams started well, it was evident from the beginning that it was going to be a tight game, and all players needed to give their all. Both teams had their chances, but it was Adare who took the lead. Captain on the day Jack Fitzgerald fired in a superb corner to Gearoid Kirwan who drove it into the net on the half-volley; it was a very well taken goal. It was very even in midfield throughout the game, with Jeffrey Alfred, Cathal Scanlan & Brian Flynn working tirelessly getting forward at every opportunity but also tracking back to help their defence. The Adare defence made up of Tom Feighan, Adam Moroney & Conal Hourigan worked very hard throughout the game. Goalkeeper Jack Canty pulled off some excellent saves. Overall a draw was a very fair result. Adare squad on full: Jack Fitzgerald, Jack Canty, Brian Curtin, Adam Moroney, Dale Griffin, Tom Feighan, Cathal Scanlan, Conal Hourigan, Jeffrey Alfred, Brian Flynn and Gearoid Kirwan.
U14 Div 2 Match Report
Creeves 2 Adare Utd 2
Adare under 14’s resumed their league campaign with a tough assignment away to Creeves last Saturday afternoon. This was a much changed Adare team from the one that lost to Creeves 6 nil on the first day of the season last August. A run of 5 matches without defeat had seen Adare progress to second place in the league and the Adare lads were determined to make up for that opening day defeat.
The match was evenly contested for the first 20 minutes with both sides cancelling each other out particularly in the tough physical midfield encounters. In the 23rd minute Adare won a throw in on the right side of Creeves penalty area as the ball came into the area centre forward Scott O’Riordan used his height to head the ball into the path of Chris Carey who squeezed the ball between the post and the Creeves goalkeeper to put Adare in front. Following this Creeves were stung into action and in the 30th minute Adare were lucky to escape when a shot from one of the Creeves forwards cannoned off the Adare post. Four minutes later the Creeves pressure paid off and they equalised with a well taken goal.
15 minutes into the second half Creeves went in front and the Adare management made two tactical substitutions bringing on Richard Costelloe for Scott O’Riordan and JD Keogh for Stephen Sheehan. JD slotted into centre half and Captain Jason Griffin moved into an attacking midfield role. This gambit paid off when in the 20th minute Jason beat the Creeves offside trap to score a fine equaliser. In the last 10 minutes both sides worked hard to get the winning goal but both defences were solid and the game finished a draw which was a fair result on the day.
This was a tough physical match and while the tackles were hard they were fair and the referee did not have to furnish any cards to either side. On Adare’s side the back four under Captain Jason Griffin were again solid. David Connolly had another fine match and the full backs Costelloe and O’Connor hardly put a foot wrong. The midfield worked tremendously hard especially Hugh Bourke, Stephen Sheehan and Killian Hannon. In particular Nicky Derwin had his best game of the season and marshalled the centre of the pitch for Adare and gets this week’s nod for man of the match.
With 3 games left it’s a close race between Adare, Breska and Creeves. However this Adare squad has grown in stature as the season progressed and this result showed they have the skill and commitment to contest the title.
Adare: Declan Keane, Eoghan Costelloe, Shane O’Connor, David Connolly, Jason Griffin, Killian Hannon, Nicky Derwin, Hugh Bourke, Stephen Sheehan, JD Keogh, Chris Carey, Scott O’Riordan, Alex Boylan, Danny Lynch, Richard Costelloe, Sam Costelloe.

Adare Utd 4 - Kildimo 1
Adare U12s continued their league campaign with a home fixture against Kildimo Saturday afternoon. At this stage of the league we were a point behind leaders Breska but with two games in hand, so with this in mind we knew we had to keep the points coming in. Adare started brightly in the opening stages and went on the attack straight away. In the first ten minutes Adare created some good gaol chances and were unlucky not to have been one up when we had the ball in the net but unfortunately it was judged offside. Another chance presented itself when we won a free kick in a dangerous area and Hyde struck in beautifully but it came back off the crossbar. Adare saw another effort come back off the post shortly after. It was all Adare but as sometimes happens with nearly the first time Kildimo got into the Adare half they opened the scoring when Adare failed to clear from the box. A goal totally against the run of play mid way through the half. This though seemed to spur Adare on more and we equalised shortly after after a great move involving Jonathon Hyde and Eoin Ryan who laid the ball to Dan Curley and he calmly slotted past the Kildimo keeper. A well taken goal. This seemed to settle us down again but it was Kildimo who nearly scored again but this time it was defended well and Adare then turned defence into attack when Callum Hourigan got on the end of a good clearance and he raced through and executed a fantastic shrike over the head of the keeper to put us two one up. The first half ended with this scoreline. The second half started similar to the first with Adare attacking and again were unlucky to see yet another effort hit the post. Ten minutes in saw Oran Collins in for Stephen Evans who played well throughout. In this half the Adare defence of Luke Maccessy, Luke Cardy, Eoin Ryan and Padraig O Neill saw off any danger that came their way, and our keeper Samuel McCormac was largely untroubled. Mike Macky and Hyde were excellent in midfield and Sam Sorensen caused problems for Kildimo down the wing and was rewarded with a great goal for his efforts twenty minutes in to put Adare three one up. At this stage James Costello came in for Callum and Steven Conway came in for Dan Curley. Adare were camped in the Kildimo half from then on and Hyde finished the game off when he hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box to the left of the keeper to give us a well deserved scoreline of four one. Well done to all,. The squad in full was Samuel McCormac, Luke Maccessy, Luke Cardy, Eoin Ryan, Padraig O Neill, Sam Sorensen, Mike Mackey, Jonathon Hyde, Dan Curley, Callum Hourigan, Stephen Evans, James Costello, Killian O Shaughnessy, Stephen Conway, Shaen Heffernan, Sion Hickey, Gearoid Kirwan, Conal Hourigan, Oran Collins, Bryan Curtin, Kurt Dillon. Training again as usual in the crescent comp Friday at seven.

Under 14 Cup 23/1/10 – Adare Utd 3 – 4 Abbeyfeale (After Extra Time)
Adare Utd and Abbeyfeale met at Deerpark last Saturday in the 1st round of the Under 14 Cup at the third time of asking due to the recent bad weather. This was Adare’s first competitive outing since the end of October and first division Abbeyfeale represented a severe test. This turned out to be a cracking match and it was nip and tuck for the first 24 minutes until Adare’s Killian Hannon converted from a corner with a header from close range. However within 5 minutes Abbeyfeale had equalised but just before half time Stephen Sheehan put Adare in front again following an opportunistic and dogged challenge when the Abbeyfeale goalkeeper tried to clear his lines. In the second half Abbeyfeale piled on the pressure and eventually equalised and the match finished 2 – 2 at full time. This meant a further 10 minutes of extra time and some of the Adare lads began to suffer from their exertions against the more physically stronger Abbeyfeale team and when Abbeyfeale got a lucky third goal it looked like Adare had no way back. Captain Jason Griffin was suffering with a leg injury which meant a reshuffle which saw Jason moving up to centre forward while David Cardy moved back to Centre Half. From somewhere Jason summoned up whatever energy he had left and took off on a solo run that saw him run 40 yards beat 3 Abbeyfeale players before squaring the ball to Nicky Derwin who slotted home from 10 yards. Three All! It seemed that a return trip to Abbeyfeale was on the cards. However within 2 minutes Abbeyfeale counter attacked and won a corner from which they scored the all important winning goal. The final whistle came shortly afterwards and the Adare lads were shattered.
While the result shows a win for Abbeyfeale the Adare lads can hold their heads high as this was a terrific and determined display from every player. A draw would have been the fairest result but it was not to be. Performances like this show that Adare have the ability to compete at higher levels and will be fighting to the last match of the season for the Division 2 title.

December 12th
Carrig Celtic 0, Adare Utd. 8
Job done is all that can be said about this very one sided game. It took nearly twenty minutes for Adare to break through the Carrig defence but once it was breached there was no stopping them. In fairness to Carrig they are a very young and inexperienced side who should do well in the future. Not very much could be learned from this victory but three points is the most important thing. Scorers on the day were: Calum Hourigan (2), Mike Mackey (2) Sam Sorensen, Shane Heffernan and Oran Collins. Well done to all who showed up on the day in what is an extremely strong panel of over 20 players.

December 8th
On Friday 4th December we held a Quiz Night in Sean Collins bar to raise funds for our Schoolboy league teams. It was a very enjoyable night and we had tremendous support on the night from juniors, ladies, managers and parents with a total of 18 teams participating. Many thanks to Liam O’Connor our quizmaster, who set some challenging questions but provided a great variety of topics from local knowledge to sports and politics. Many thanks also to everyone who generously provided spot prizes on the night. Thanks too to all those who helped out on the night in selling tickets, distributing & collecting question sheets and helping keep the scores.
A very special word of thanks to Sean and Bridie Collins for the use of their premises and particularly for their continuing generous sponsorship of the club. Sean & Bridie have recently sponsored a new set of jerseys for the club and on the night provided 2 jerseys as spot prizes.
All in all a very enjoyable night was had by all and congratulations to all the winners on the night.

Match Report for U10 match Shannonside Vrs Adare
Final Score 2 - 2
Adare Team - Conal Hourigan, Tom Feighan, Adam Moroney, Jack Fitzgerald, Cathal Scanlon, Jeffrey Alfred, Ryan Whitiker, Cian Kirwan & Eoghan Collins
Adare played away to Shannonside on Sunday afternoon with a number of there squad unable to attend. The Adare team have alot to be proud of as they equited themselves very well in bad weather conditions. They put alot of pressure on the Shannonside goal, hitting the post twice during the game. Tom Feighan and Adam Moroney defended tirelessly throughout the game, where possible going forward, resulting in Tom scoring a goal for Adare. Our midfielders ran box to box continously, Jack Fitzgerald played a defensive midfield role and mopped up everything that came his way while Jeffrey Alfred and Cathal Scanlon played some excellent football supporting our striker Ryan Whitiker who came close to scoring on a number of occassions. Conal Hourigan played the first half in Goal and pulled off some excellent saves, he played the second half in midfield supporting Cathal Scanlon. Both Cian Kirwan and Eoghan Collins who usually play U8's helped out their U10 collegues on the day, Cian scored an excellent goal for Adare when he latched on to a pass by Cathal Scanlon. Overall, on the day a draw was probably a fair result.
